Oakfield Wood Natural Burial Ground in Wrabness, Essex is proud to take part in No Mow May. This annual campaign is urging everyone to pack away the lawnmower, let wildflowers grow freely and help nature.
We actively maintain as natural an environment as possible for the birds and wildlife at Oakfield Wood Wrabness. Our woodland burial grounds are protected by the Essex Wildlife Trust, ensuring that the beautiful natural resting places remain forever untouched. More and more people are choosing to go back to nature at the end of their lives. Becoming part of a protected natural habitat for wildlife and birdlife offers families peace of mind and the reassurance that their loved ones will live on as part of something truly beautiful and teeming with life.

Join the NoMow Movement!
From May onwards, simply stop mowing your lawn (or even just a small part of it) and do more by doing less.
No lawn is too small! Even the tiniest wild patch can provide vital food needed by bees and butterflies and give wildlife the best start to summer.
Plus, less mowing will save you effort, cost, reduce your carbon footprint and give you a deeper connection to nature. It really is that simple to make a difference – from May, put the mower away!

Why do we Need No Mow May?
Approximately 97% of flower-rich meadows have been lost since the 1930s, and with them, vital food and habitat needed by wildlife.
But your garden can help! A healthy lawn with some longer grass and wildflowers helps to tackle pollution, benefits wildlife and can even lock away carbon below the ground.
There’s around 23 million gardens in the UK, so imagine the impact if we all took part! Even the smallest grassy patches can add up.
You don’t have to leave the whole thing long, in fact, leaving a mix of grass lengths in your lawn from #NoMowMay and beyond means you’re giving nature the boost it deserves.
Our woodland burial grounds are protected by the Essex Wildlife Trust, and provide natural resting places will forever remain untouched. Each Full or Ashes Interment includes the planting of a tree of your choice and a plaque of Remembrance.
