Bamboo supporting the natural woodland environment.

Oakfield Wood Wrabness is introducing the use and sale of bamboo pots for the burial grounds. Bamboo provides a perfectly biodegradable pot for flowers, which supports the natural environment of the woodland. To maintain the beautiful natural environment of the woodland for nature, wildlife and visitors, we now ask visitors to stop bringing plastic or glass jars for flowers. Any found will be removed.

Bamboo pots will be buried at each plot to reveal only the top inch. The flowers sit nicely and the grounds and maintenance team can easily avoid touching them. Pot Size approx; 21cm deep and 9cm across.

From the 01 June every burial plot will include 1 x Bamboo Pot, which will be buried, leaving it loose enough to be removed and stagnant water emptied out.

For existing plots, families can purchase a pot from the office for £10, which includes pot placement. We allow a max of three pots per plot but would prefer only one. We envisage the pots lasting about a year at which point, families can purchase replacement pots.

We work hard to keep Oakfield Wood as natural as possible for the Families who visit, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the woodland, fostering a sense of connection not only to their loved ones but also to the woodland itself. Equally important are the birds and wildlife who live here and for whom a lot of what we remove also poses a health risk. Our woodland burial grounds are protected by the Essex Wildlife Trust and so offer permanent resting places that will forever remain completely undisturbed.
