Maintaining the natural ecology of the woodland is ongoing. It's essential to permit only plants and items, which support the natural ecology. Anything, which could harm the woodland must be removed. Plastics, decorations, rockeries, non-native woodland plants and benches etc., are not permitted as they do not support the health and vitality of the woodland. We respectfully ask that people refrain from placing any additional items on the grave sites. To accompany your wooden plaque and chosen tree, cut flowers may be placed in bamboo pots, which are available from the office.
For more details please refer to our Terms &Conditions.
Removal of harmful items and plants will commence from 9th March 2026.
From the 9th March, all harmful items will be removed. Visitors / Relatives are invited to remove any items they wish to keep, prior to this date. We appreciate your understanding and consideration for both the environment and for others, who chose this natural woodland setting as a resting place. Thank You.

Woodland of Peace and Reflection
As we come into spring, the woodland will naturally provide an array of colour from beautiful native plants and flowers including daffodils, snowdrops and bluebells.

Oakfield Wood offers more than just a burial site. It provides a space where friends and family can find peace in a natural setting. We work hard to maintain that natural setting.
The woodland’s calm atmosphere invites visitors to reflect, remember, or simply enjoy the quiet beauty of the surroundings.
Supporting Wildlife and Conservation
Oakfield Wood is also a nature reserve. The woodland management follows a Site Management Scheme approved by the Wildlife Trust. This commitment protects the habitat from anything harmful and encourages biodiversity. Visitors often notice the variety of birds, insects, and small mammals thriving among the trees. Our commitment ensures a natural setting and requires constant maintenance to remove anything that would not naturally be found in a woodland.
If you are considering a green burial, Oakfield Wood provides a serene, supportive setting that respects both the earth and your wishes. This woodland sanctuary invites you to experience the true essence of peace in nature. Our woodland burial grounds are protected by the Essex Wildlife Trust and so offer permanent resting places that will forever remain completely undisturbed. Full or Ashes Interments include the planting of a Tree and a Plaque of Remembrance. People of all faiths or none are welcome. This inclusivity allows families to create ceremonies that truly reflect their loved one’s life and values. Whether a religious or secular service, Oakfield Wood’s team supports every wish with compassion and professionalism.
