Oakfield Wood Wrabness in June

For those at rest in Oakfield Wood Natural Burial Ground in Wrabness, Essex, a serene tranquillity surrounds them. The woodland comes alive in May & June, showcasing a vibrant display of colour and life. The lush greenery of the trees and the colourful blooms of wildflowers create a beautiful tapestry that supports the resident birdlife and wildlife. This peaceful haven offers a comforting spot for visitors to remember the good times with their loved ones.

The longer days and warmer temperatures encourage a flurry of growth in Oakfield Wood Wrabness. Trees, such as oak, maple, and birch, are fully leafed out, providing a lush green canopy. Wildflowers, including bluebells and foxgloves, bloom, attracting various bees and butterflies.

Birdsong fills the air as many species, such as robins and warblers, are busy nesting and raising their young. The woodland floor is also alive with activity, as mammals like foxes and deer are more visible, taking advantage of the abundant food sources.

Additionally, June is a time for woodland management activities, such as thinning and coppicing, which help maintain biodiversity. The combination of vibrant flora and fauna makes British woodlands a stunning and lively ecosystem during this month.

Mid June will see the first full trim around the burial grounds, including mounds / plots. We would like to respectfully ask visitors to not plant bushes and plants on the plots as this restricts our ability to carry out the essential maintenance required.

Our woodland burial grounds are protected by the Essex Wildlife Trust, ensuring that these resting places will forever remain untouched. Each Full or Ashes Interment includes the planting of a tree of your choice and a plaque of Remembrance.
